Learning interpretive and educational skills enables aboriginal guide trainees to share knowledge of Tasmania's heritage with visitors. The program was developed in partnership with The Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania.
About the Project
The Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania partnership supports a Guide Training Program where trainees learn interpretive and educational skills enabling them to share knowledge of Tasmanian aboriginal heritage with visitors in line with Tasmanian Aboriginal community protocols.
The Solution
Tasmanian Walking Company and the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania partnered in 2015 to support an Aboriginal Guide Training Program. Trainees learn the necessary skills to provide interpretive and educational activities for visitors and share knowledge of Tasmanian aboriginal heritage ensuring it is in line with Tasmanian Aboriginal community protocols.
The Impact

10 participants have gained a recognised guide qualification at Drysdale Tafe in Victoria and work placements at our Bay of Fires Lodge Walk and Cradle Mountain Huts Walk.
